Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the questions we hear most often from people who are just getting started. If you do not see your question below, check out the Lexicon for a deeper look at the terms.

Is AI free to use?

Yes. Basic versions of AI like ChatGPT are free and can be used right away. You only need a web browser. Some advanced features may cost money, but the core experience is available at no cost.

How do I know if the AI is telling the truth?

AI can sometimes sound very confident even when it is wrong. Always double-check important information like medical advice, financial details, or facts you rely on. Think of AI as a smart friend who sometimes makes mistakes, not as an expert.

How private is my data when I use AI?

When you use AI online, your questions are processed by the company that runs it. This means your prompts may be stored or used for training. If you want complete privacy, running AI locally on your own computer (covered on the Setup page) keeps everything private.

Do I need to be tech-savvy to use AI?

No. AI is designed to work just like a conversation. You type a question or a request, and the AI responds. If you can send an email or use a search engine, you can use AI. The more clearly you write, the better the response.

Can I use AI without owning a computer?

Yes. Many people use AI through their phone or tablet. Apps like ChatGPT and Google Gemini are mobile-friendly. The Test Drive page shows how to start right from your browser on any device.

What happens if I make a mistake while using AI?

Nothing bad. You cannot break the AI or your computer by asking the wrong question. If AI gives you an answer you do not like, simply type a new question. It is like talking to someone: if they misunderstand, just clarify.

Do I need a powerful computer to run AI locally?

Not necessarily. If you just want to chat with AI at home, a Mac Mini is enough. More demanding tasks like creating images or working with very large documents may need more power. The Setup page walks you through the options.

What is the difference between running AI online vs. locally?

When AI runs online, your questions go to a company's server. When it runs locally, your questions stay on your own machine. Local AI gives you complete privacy and no need for an internet connection, but it does require setting up the right hardware.
